Gets Touch ID support, widgets, admin controls and more

Box has updated its app for the iPhone and iPad, introducing a host of features aimed at improving collaboration functionality for users.

The latest version of Box for iPhone and iPad v3.5 has been remodelled, offering support of Touch ID, for example, which can be used to login to the app instead of using a password.

The app, as well as the website, now sports a new “Favourites” function so that users can mark folders and files for quick access with one tap. The feature has also been added to Box’s Content API to allow applications built in top of the Box platform to use the feature as well.

Users can also add a Box widget to Notification Centre and this will allow them to access these files in the Favourites list. The widget also enables users to start new notes or take a picture then immediately upload it to the cloud.

There also a number of enhancements for administrators. New collaboration whitelists will let admins define and manage trusted domains for collaboration. When enabled, employees can invite collaborators and accept invitations only from these vetted organisations.

Box has also introduced new reports that show how content flows outside of an organisation between the business, customers, partners and other collaborators.

What's more, the firm has updated its web front end to its cloud storage service. The header in Box has been simplified and prioritises the most important functionality and removes non-essentials to improve search for content and sharing with collaborators, according to the company. There's also a new inbox-like notification too.

"Today and over the coming weeks, we are releasing a number of updates that improve the way we surface important content stored on Box, streamline core UI, enhance page load performance, and continue our commitment to delivering enterprise security through simpler controls," said Chris Yeh, Box's senior vice president of product and platform, in a blog post.

"Today’s improvements are the first step in Box’s journey to design an enterprise software experience that’s more streamlined, immersive and built for the way we work today. There’s a lot more ahead and we can’t wait to show it off."

Box for iOS v3.5 is available through the Apple App Store for free.
