The world has changed: managers are no longer relying on IT departments for their software but are happy to download apps over their mobile devices. In association with GetApp, we are going to produce a monthlty round-up of the best business apps; the best Android apps and the best iPad apps.

Top 10 business apps

1) Desk.com
Desk.com combines helpdesk, social CRM and customer support into one handy app. All customer service conversations are pulled together into one desktop, where they can be sorted, prioritised and handled by your own team. Responses are delivered back through email, chat, Twitter, Facebook or a phone call as appropriate.

The licence for the first customer service agent using the app is free. Up to three agents is $27 per year. Additional licenses are charged at up to $39 per agent.

2) Marketo
Marketo is a marketing automation app aimed at all companies from start-ups to well-established multinationals.

The app features a range of tools, from basic email marketing to lead scoring and lead nurturing campaigns, as well as social marketing. Marketo features instant CRM integration and unlimited users.

Pricing starts from $1195 per month, although a free trial is available, as are discounts for non-profit organisations.

3) Insightly
Insightly is a CRM and project management app aimed specifically at small businesses.

The app was originally made for use with Google Apps and still features full Google Apps integration, including Gmail, Calendar and Docs. However, those who do not have Google Apps can use Insightly’s stand-alone web app.

Users can keep track of a full history of customer interactions, including emails, phone calls and meetings, with related items, such as tasks related to opportunities or employees from the same employer being automatically linked together.

Up to three licences are granted free, with additional subscriptions starting at $29.

4) Infusionsoft
Infustionsoft is another CRM tool for small businesses and freelancers.

The app takes care of CRM by centralising all contact information in one place, which can avoid duplication of effort, as well as automating some aspect of the sales workflow and nurturing leads.

Infusionsoft also features integrated marketing tools, such as campaign creation and lead capture, an e-commerce system with features including storefront and shopping cart creation, and automation capabilities like order tracking and invoicing.

Pricing starts from $199 per month.

5) Clarizen
Clarizen’s project management app allows users to establish project schedules, track budgets, issues and milestones, and set up a project hierarchy, among other functions. The app also integrates with Salesforce, with users able to create and view the progress of both projects and issues from within the CRM platform.

Additionally, Clarizen has project templates available for use and allows users and teams to collaborate on individual documents and whole projects.It is available for Mac OS and Windows, as well as iPhone and Android. Pricing starts at $24.99 per user per month.

6) FreeAgent
Free agent’s app provides book keeping and accounting software for small businesses and freelancers.

Users are able to create invoices within the application and customers can pay online straight from the emailed invoice using PayPal or GoCardless. Late-paying customers can be immediately chased up with automated email reminders.

The app can also be used to forecast Income Tax and Corporation Tax. Additionally, VAT registered users can use the app to pay VAT to HMRC.

Pricing starts from £15 per month.

7)  TribeHR
TribeHR is a low-cost HR app for SMBs with teams of between five and five-hundred people.

The app features a vacation calendar, to keep track of all upcoming absences across the organisation, as well as performance management tools such as skills tracking, goal tracking and anonymous microfeedback.

Additionally, TribeHR has day-to-day tools, such as timesheets, job postings and social recruitment.

TribeHR also features integration with ADP and PayChex payroll systems, as well as other cloud-based business management tools like NetSuite and Salesforce.

Pricing starts from $2 per employee per month.

8) Zendesk
Zendesk is a customer service software app for all business sizes, from SMB to enterprise.

The app allows for flexible ticket management, reporting and advanced analytics, group rules and macros, and private and public forums for reporting and discussing issues.

Zendesk also gives customer service operatives the ability to deal with customer enquiries via email, phone, chat, social media or via the web.

Pricing for the app, which also features Salesforce and SugarCRM integration, starts from $20 per year for up to three agents.

9 Freshdesk
Another customer support app, Freshdesk unifies all customer interactions into one tool.

Conversations held via email, chat, phone or through social media channels, such as Twitter and Facebook, are logged together in the app. Forum-like community boards can also be set up to encourage customer feedback and engagement.

Freshdesk also includes standard features like helpdesk ticketing.

Additionally, the app can be used to automate some functions, including ticket dispatch.

Aimed at all sizes of business, Freshdesk’s pricing starts at $15 per agent per month.

10) Mavenlink
This online collaboration, collaboration and professional services automation app helps professional services providers to more easily manage projects from start to finish.

Under its collaboration arm, Maven allows these providers and their clients to securely communicate, share documents and manage tasks.

Time tracking, expense reporting, and invoicing and online payments are all automated via the app’s professional services automation capabilities.

Finally, its project tracker simplifies and speeds up management, with project-oriented to do lists, events, messages and comments being integrated into users’ existing email systems from day one.

Mavenlink also features integration with Google Apps and Quickbooks.
