The acquisition will extend the service company’s reach globally and give the firm a physical base in the UK and Ireland.

Appirio today revealed it has bought Irish firm Saaspoint for an undisclosed sum.

The US cloud services company announced back in September it wanted to grow its base across Europe and now hopes picking up the cloud consultancy will make the transition an easy one.

“With the acquisition of Saaspoint today, [we] are one step further in our quest to be THE pure-play global cloud integrator,” wrote Chris Barbin, chief executive (CEO) of Appirio, on the company’s blog.

“Saaspoint is the largest and most experienced European-based provider of cloud consulting services and, while it’s our fourth acquisition this year, joining forces with them is a big milestone for Appirio.”

Saaspoint was set up in 2005 by former Salesforce staff and with offices in Dublin, London and Stockholm – as well as a US base in Denver – plus 100 customers on its books, it has a strong European presence.

The deal should also be beneficial to the smaller firm, as it will allow it to tap into Appirio’s CloudSpokes developer community – 30,000 at last count – and have more resources to push its own cloud offerings.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year, depending on the usual regulatory issues, with the team being incorporated into Appirio “with as few changes as possible.”

However, CEO John Appleby will be stepping down from his role and taking on a purely advisory position, whilst Appirio’s general manager of Europe, Lori Williams, will take over those who reported directly to Appleby.

“Both Appirio and Saaspoint have built strong, high-growth businesses around a talented team of people that understand the promise and power of cloud solutions,” said Appleby.

“That shared culture and vision makes this an ideal match, and the team is excited to join a company that is reshaping how the industry defines cloud integrators.”
