UK Cloud Awards - Shortlist of finalists announced

It's been a long process but the judges have finally picked the finalists to do battle for the UK's first cloud awardss

A wide range of companies - big and small, UK and US, old and new - will be sweating anxiously from today, following the publication of the shortlist of finalists in the UK Cloud Awards. The awards' judges published the full list this morning, ending several weeks of speculation as to who had made the cut.

There are 52 companies on the shortlist, with major companies such as Amazon and Google, battle with smaller organisations for the ultimate prizes.

There was stiff competition. The judges, all hugely experienced in IT and business, took slightly longer than expected to reach their conclusions - but that was thanks to the overwhelming response to the UK's first ever cloud awards.

The awards, jointly organised by The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), Virtual Clouds and techUK, have been sponsored by Microsoft, Ingram MIcro and Outsourcery and have been designed to reflect the growing importance of cloud within the UK technological community. The winners will be announced at drinks reception at London's City Hall on 26 February,

Alex Hilton, CIF’s CEO, said: “The response that we have had from the industry has been staggering. We publicly communicated the awards to the industry in November 2013, and to have several hundred nominations is incredible and demonstrates the depth and breadth of the innovative cloud services and real life working solutions. The judging process was engaging and energetic and we now move on to agree the winners.”

His view was endorsed by techUK director, Ian Osborne (who was also one of the judges) said: "The awards represent an important moment for the cloud industry and techUK is working closely with these businesses to ensure UK cloud companies have access to market intelligence; can develop their commercial networks; and have the opportunity to enter new markets, both domestic and international. The quality of the entries for the UK Cloud Awards was truly outstanding and is indicative of the talent, innovation and huge potential of this industry.”
